Hello everyone, I'm María del Pilar Castillo Pérez, a trained forest engineer, CEO, and proud member of the Cooperativa Agraria Cacaotera Choba Choba. Sharing my environmental experience with you and emphasizing the crucial importance of preserving the Amazon fills me with great emotion. As a resident of this extraordinary place, I can attest to its immeasurable value and exceptional biodiversity. The Amazon is much more than just a habitat for numerous species; it regulates the global climate and preserves our local water resources—fundamental aspects of our daily lives as cacao farmers.
The health of our farms is closely tied to the forest, which is why we've embraced agroecological practices within Choba Choba. By avoiding pesticides and chemical fertilizers, we reduce soil and water pollution. Simultaneously, the communities of Huayabamba are actively involved in conservation projects such as reforestation and the protection of natural areas. These tangible actions contribute to preserving the fragile balance of this unique ecosystem.
But our responsibility doesn't end there. We advocate for governments and international organizations to implement policies and programs aimed at protecting this precious ecosystem. Ultimately, caring for the Amazon is not just a necessity for our local biodiversity but also a global imperative for the balance of our planet.
Therefore, I want to emphasize that each of us has a role to play in this vital undertaking. Contributing to ensuring a sustainable future for this natural treasure and for future generations is a collective mission. On behalf of the 37 Choba Choba families, I extend warm Christmas wishes to you from the Peruvian Amazon for a prosperous 2024 filled with resilience and respect for our environment.
