On this occasion, we give the floor to Felix Revilla Trujillo, cocoa farmer, founding member of Choba Choba, and president of the Conservation Association of Pucallpillo.
" Protecting our forests is essential—not just for us as a community but for the entire Huayabamba valley. Our forest provides vital resources like clean water from its streams and springs, as well as habitat for countless species of wildlife. These services are essential for our livelihoods and the health of our environment, making conservation a priority for everyone in the community.
Since 2010, we have worked together to conserve this forest. That year, we formed an association called APROAGROP Pucallpillo dedicated to its protection and began taking steps to safeguard it for future generations. In 2022, we officially applied to have this forest recognized as a conservation concession, highlighting its importance not just locally but also on a broader environmental scale.
Last year, in 2023, we achieved an important milestone when the state granted our association official stewardship of this forest. This recognition empowers us to continue protecting it through regular patrols, ensuring no illegal activities such as land invasions or deforestation occur. Beyond protection, we also engage in sustainable activities, like raising stingless bees, which provide both environmental benefits and economic opportunities for our community.
This forest represents more than just natural beauty—it is our life, our heritage, and our responsibility. Together, we are committed to ensuring it remains a source of life and inspiration for generations to come."
