Today, Rita Vilca presents AMPA, another key player in the vital work of forest conservation.
“Amazónicos por la Amazonía (AMPA) is a Peruvian organization committed to preserving the natural and cultural heritage of the Andean Amazon while promoting sustainable development and improving the quality of life for local communities.
For over 20 years, AMPA has worked with Andean-Amazonian communities, local authorities, and other stakeholders to implement voluntary conservation initiatives that secure legal protection for Amazonian forests. These efforts have supported the establishment of over 40 conservation areas in the regions of San Martín, Loreto, and Ucayali, collectively protecting more than 700,000 hectares. Through the Red Nacional Amazonía que Late, a conservation network active in 11 regions, AMPA provides technical assistance for managing over 1.5 million hectares in 180 conservation projects.
To ensure the sustainability of these areas, AMPA promotes nine forest-based value chains aligned with circular economy principles. These initiatives generate income to support forest monitoring and protection efforts. Additionally, the organization emphasizes environmental education, having reached over 5,000 children and adolescents through community-based, interactive programs. A strong focus on gender equity ensures inclusive participation and leadership opportunities for women.
AMPA’s work contributes to achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 5, 10, 12, 13, 15, and 17, fostering ecological conservation and social well-being in the Andean Amazon.
The organization remains committed to advancing its mission, collaborating with diverse partners to create a sustainable and equitable future for Amazonian communities and ecosystems.”
