Our exclusive Nativo chocolates are made from more than 100 native and rediscovered cacao varieties in the Alto Huayabamba Valley, Peru.

We grow, harvest, and process the best of these local and rare cacaos to share with you the Nativo bars which are incredibly flavorful and intense.

Yet, there is an even greater hidden diversity of cacao to be appreciated and to be revealed. So, in 2017 we decided to launch the Nativo Project, setting out to rediscover, research and save these diverse treasures in the Peruvian Amazon.

We catalogued over 100 different cacao trees, we logged each variety in a database with photographs and GPS coordinates with all their details of size, color, shape, number of seeds, pest and disease resistance. We also analyzed their flavor profiles in depth. As a result, we set up a conservation orchard to protect and research these precious cacao diversities.

The genetic diversity of our cacao plantations is important for flavor and it is also vital for their resilience and sustainability, helping our farmers achieve both greater yields and a more reliable income.
